Since 1988 Rooseum has been a is a beautiful exhibition space in Malmo, Sweden and also a center for contempary art. The exhibitions of Rooseum have attracted many visitors through the years.
It has provided an opportunity for a lot of young swedish artists to showcase their work to the public. Rooseum was privately owned from the start, owned by the founder Fredrik Roos and his family. Their foundation ran the center until the death of Fredrik Roos in 1991. He had by then donated a large collection of valuable pieces of art to the center.
The building in itself has a long history and started out as a power plant built in the year of 1900. The architect was named Johan Smedberg and he is also the architect behind several other well know buildings in the southern part of Sweden. He had gathered his influences both from Sweden and from his art studies abroad.
The building was later modified to become the Rooseum it is today.
In the year of 2006 large parts of the art work at Rooseum was auctioned off and proceeds went to a foundation that support swedish contemporary art. After the location being empty for a few years it is now taken over by Moderna Museet who will open a branch of its exhibitions there in the the fall of 2009.
Please return at a later date for more information on coming exhibits.
