FeminismS
31 maj -2 juni 2002

Seminar

Nomadsland is a project developed by artists from the international cultural network proto academy and Malmö art Academy. The seminar was organised in collaboration with Malmö Art Academy, proto academy and Rooseum Center for Contemporary Art. The seminar concentrated on the topic of cultural nomadism. The discussion focused on the relation between artistic practice and the current social, urban, economic, geographical and political issues to see how these could be used as tools for new cultural structures and possibilities. For the seminar, Malmö was to be considered as a temporary model that could be related to other situations and places. As a background to the discussions Nomadsland visited places in Malmö and in the region, such as Folkets hus, Rosengård, Bomässan Bo01, Christiania in Copenhagen and the IT house Virtual Business House.

Public arrangements:

NEW SOCIETIES AND OTHER EXPERIMENTS
Saturday 19 May at 10 - 5
Seminar

As part of the new activities at Rooseum we will in the future arrange talks and seminars parallel to the exhibitions. With these events we would like to create a forum for dialogue within the institution, where the participation of invited guests and other interested people will help to put our projects into a broader cultural and political perspective.
'New Societies and other experiments' was the headline of the first seminar which took place Saturday 19 May at 10 - 5 in the Rooseum. The title was referring to the models and visions of an alternative, collective society particular of the 1970s, which still seems to inspire many people, although they take other forms than earlier. At the seminar we put some of the communities of the 1970s in focus, and drew a line to today, where one of the tendencies is to gather in socio-political organisations or activist groups rather than in collective ways of living. We had invited people to present the ideas they have strived to realize both as individuals and groups, in some cases with radical methods in opposition to the rest of the society.
The seminar could be seen in continuation of Vi - Intentional Communities, and several of the invited participants had a direct relation to the historical section of the exhibition. The intention was to put the exhibition in general into a context. We want to open Rooseum as a place for debates primarily with a point of departure in the Öresund region.
The programme of talks continued in the beginning of June, when the international, cultural network, proto academy, arranged a seminar in connection with their project in Malmö about cities and cultural identity. Later this year the Öresund region itself will be the focus of discussions with a cultural as well as an economical perspective.
Participants in the seminar 19 May:
Christiania, Copenhagen v. Ole Lykke; Moder Jord och Söner AB, Tollarp v. Percy Andersson; Friedrichshof, Austria v. Theo Altenberg; de autonome, Copenhagen; Kvinnojouren, Malmö.

BRUS
Saturday 7 April at 10 pm - 3 am
Club

The whole Rooseum building became a club. After the success last summer with BRUS in the upper gallery at the Rooseum we went one step further this time. BRUS made the old power station sparkle by presenting the latest club music at all three floors:
Kongo Bongo Crew Soundsystem, featuring Selectah Niceness & B-Famous and Andrew & Flimpoman, from the record company Topaz in Stockholm, in the upper gallery. Ragga, reggae and hiphop.
DJ Tudde came directly from London to the Rooseum turbine hall. He brought new
vinyl from hiphop, to soul to raregrooves and breaks!

In the basement a Techno and housebattle took place.
Well known names as DJ Björn Svin, DJ LAB, DJ Sulfat and DJ Vial tried to beat eachother with techno and deep house.
