Kristjān Gudmundsson: Untitled (3), 1990.Mixed media (Water levels).

KRISTJĀN GUDMUNDSSON.

August 14 - October 3, 1993.

Curator: Ulrika Levén

The sculptures and drawings by Gudmundsson are based upon conceptual and minimalistic traditions at the same time as they are strongly attached to the important narrative tradition of Iceland. The materials refer to the medium. In a subtle and often low-key humorous way his works concretely consist of materials connected with reading or drawing - graphite, rolls of paper, ink...

There is a logic continuity throughout his works; from the first "drawings", Supersonic Drawings (1972) - the trace and powderstain from a rifle bullet that has just touched the paper (!), to one of the more recent works, Black Hole (1993) - a roll of carbon paper which evokes a sense of the black holes of space, engulfing everything without emitting anything.
A very personal conceptual art which respectfully communicates with the observer and, like a poem, leaves space for reflections.

The exhibition includes 63 works from the early '70s up to the present, giving a representative picture of the artist's body of work.

Kristjān Gudmundsson was born in Snæfellsnes, Iceland in 1941 and lives in Reykjavik.
