ROLF HANSON - Paintings.

25 March - 14 May, 1995.

Curator: Lars Nittve

Those of us who saw the paintings by Rolf Hanson in the extensive generational show "1953", at the Rooseum in 1992, where struck by how very contemporary the works seemed, although they were more than ten years old. It seemed as if the shift from the wrought up optimism of the 80's to the present day backlash, had left Rolf Hanson's artistic integrity unaffected.

Since the magnificent shows at Moderna Museet in 1985 and the Venice Biennal in 1988, works by Rolf Hanson have been exhibited sparsely. Although, he has in a surprising way during this time forced his painting into new dimensions, where the wonderfully beautiful and the dissonant, the solidly well worked-out and the foolhardedly reckless creates a dilecttical tension. This show at the Rooseum consists of a little more than 40 paintings from the last years.

Rolf Hanson was born in Malmö 1953. He lives in Stockholm.
