Exhibition: See What it Feels Like! consists of a medley of artists whom became established in the 1980's, others that had their breakthrough in the 1990's, as well as some who have yet to become more widely known.
Theme: See What it Feels Like! does not have an overriding theme. Instead, it is to be viewed as eleven separate shows of contemporary Swedish artists. Several of the artists share the similar philosophy, however, namely that language - and hence the intellect - no longer provides the only way by which we understand the complexity of contemporary reality... Instead, there is a renewed interest in approaching reality through feeling - while at the same time dodging the expressionist trap. They clearly state that feeling is not only a tool for greater self-awareness, it also becomes a highly instructive and interactive instrument in the process of communication between the viewer and the work.
Media: The exhibition largely provides a sample of every conceivable medium used within contemporary art; form painting and sculpture to photography, video and installations. The exhibition also contains a performance element, however, where the artists use themselves or involve outsiders in their works. Primary focus is not on the medium, but on the way it is used. In this respect, the approach of the artists is characterized by the cross-fertilization of different media rather than the media in its pure state. the materials, too, are quite unconventional; peat blocks, stick insects, man-made flowers, stuffed dogs and artificial ice.
