Malmö Art Academy celebrates Its 10th anniversary

2 September – 30 October 2005.

On 1 September it will be ten years since the inauguration of Malmö Art Academy. During these ten years the Academy has developed a Master of Fine Arts, a post-graduate course in Critical Studies and a Ph.D. Programme in Fine Arts.

The decade that has passed since the first September morning in 1995 has been extremely interesting and rewarding. A large number of artists, researchers, and students have filled the school with lively discussions, art, and above all an intense sense of life. Many of them have contributed to a book, compiled by artists and ex-students Kajsa Dahlberg, Luca Frei, and Sara Jordenö, that will be published to celebrate the anniversary.

From the beginning Malmö Art Academy and Rooseum have collaborated fruitfully on many levels. Therefore Rooseum is the obvious venue for a presentation of samples of activities from the past ten years, in a major art exhibition in connection with the anniversary.

We have invited all the 130 artists who have issued from the Art Academy to participate. 117 of them have accepted and they will be represented in an exhibition that will fill up almost the whole of Rooseum. Many of them have created entirely new works for this occasion, and none of the works are more than three years old. This means that Rooseum will be able to present a generation of young artists who combine an intense presence in the region with an engagement on an international and national level.
