Helena Backman has been granted the Fredrik Roos Artist fund award 2004. The award has since 1994 continously been given to a young, skilfull artist or craftsman in Sweden.

At Rooseum Helena Backman presents the work Kropp 2, a further development of a sound and light installation titled Kropp, previously shown at her graduation show from the Art Academy Valand in Gothenburg, spring 2004. The main focus of the piece is the difference between light and darkness, sound and silence and the possibilities in between.

During her artistic training Helena Backman has primarily been involved in an ambitious investigation of the possibilities and limitations of painting. In preparing for the graduation show she decided to use her interest in the meanings and different interpretations of symbols and to let this collide with her newly discovered passion for creating electronic music. The minimal, but very dynamic installation resulting from this decision is a work where sound and light plays with or against one another. By using a movement detector the artist allows the visitior to influence the visual and audio qualities of the work, thus creating an installation in constant flux.
