On Wednesday 1 February the artist Tanja Ostojic will make a public presentation of her work at Rooseum. Tanja Ostojic is an artist-in-residency at Rooseum until 6 February 2006, through the Nifca West Balkan Air residency program.
In her artistic practice Tanja Ostojic deals with issues of power within the art system as well as on a geo-political level. Often using her own body and personal history as material she confronts questions of gender and ethnicity head on using controversial strategies in the attempt of subverting existing hierarchies. She works from the migrant woman’s perspective and by including herself as a character in situationist performances she examines social configurations and relations of power. Tanja Ostojic’s work is highly process-based and has often been developed over a longer period of time having significant implications on her own life. During the autumn and winter of 2005/2006 Rooseum has put focus on the Artist Studios and the visiting artists. The Artists Studios is a crucial part of the Rooseum activities, creating unique possibilities for the artists to develop new projects, also making possible early on in a project can establish contacts between the artists and the audience. Rooseum has hosted the following artists this autumn/winter: The Production Unit, Erkan Özgen, Sejla Kameric, Michael Blum, and Tanja Ostojic. Upcoming artist-in-residence in 2006 will be Piia Salmi, Nifca Nordic Air program, March-June.
